Support with anxiety, relationships, grief, stress and feeling stuck

Jonathon

Sometimes life can feel difficult to make sense of. You may be feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, stressed, or unsure why the same patterns keep repeating. You may be struggling with relationships, grief, self-esteem, work pressures, or a sense of feeling stuck.

I offer private counselling and therapy for adults face to face in Witham and Chelmsford, and online across the UK. My approach is psychodynamic, which means we can think together about how past experiences, relationships and unconscious patterns may be affecting how you feel now.

Counselling offers a regular, confidential space where you can speak openly and begin to understand yourself in a deeper way. It is not about being told what to do, but about having time to think with someone who will listen carefully and help you explore what may be happening beneath the surface.

How counselling may help

People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may know exactly what you want to talk about, or you may simply have a feeling that something is not quite right.

Counselling may help if you are experiencing:

  • Anxiety, stress or panic

  • Low mood or depression

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Grief, loss or change

  • Low self-esteem or self-doubt

  • Work-related stress or burnout

  • Family difficulties

  • Feeling stuck, confused or overwhelmed

  • Repeating patterns in relationships or life choices

Whatever brings you to counselling, we can begin by thinking together about what feels most important for you.

My approach

Psychodynamic counselling gives space to explore not only what is happening in your life now, but also how earlier experiences may continue to shape your feelings, relationships and responses.

This does not mean focusing only on the past. It means being curious about the links between past and present, and noticing patterns that may have become familiar but painful. Over time, this can help you develop a clearer understanding of yourself and the way you relate to others.

Counselling is collaborative, thoughtful and paced around you.

I also have an interest in neurodivergence and welcome clients who may want to explore experiences such as masking, feeling misunderstood, overwhelm, difference, or the impact of trying to manage in a world that does not always feel accommodating.

Sessions

Ongoing counselling sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. I offer counselling face to face in Witham and Chelmsford, as well as online counselling across the UK.

Before arranging an assessment, I offer a free 15-minute introductory chat, either online or by telephone. This is an informal opportunity for you to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions you may have, and get a sense of whether you would feel comfortable talking with me.

If you would like to continue, we can then arrange a free 50-minute initial assessment. This gives us more time to explore what you would like help with, for me to explain how I work, and for us both to consider whether counselling together feels like the right fit. The 50-minute assessment can take place face to face in my therapy room, online, or by telephone.

I offer open-ended counselling rather than a fixed number of sessions. This means we do not need to decide at the beginning how long counselling will last. We can continue for as long as the sessions feel useful, reviewing this together as we go.
